October 2010 update

Thank you to everyone who has kept in touch! That said, we are still in need of up-to-date postal mailing addresses for some classmates. (Many thanks to those of you who have recently contacted me to confirm or update your mailing addresses!) If you have moved since our last reunion in 2006 or we have just reconnected via Facebook and email, please forward your contact information to mahwahhighschool1976@yahoo.com .

We will be mailing out invitations for the 35-year reunion early in 2011 and would like to be able to reach everyone. The invitation will include all of the information and an RSVP form. RSVPs are necessary in order to provide an accurate headcount for the hotel caterers and staff.

The reunion will be held in June 2011 in Mahwah. Plans in the works include a golf outing (limited spaces available) and BBQ on Friday, June 24th.  Also on this evening we hope to have a casual gathering at the Mahwah Bar and Grill.  On Saturday, June 25th at the Doubletree Hotel we will be celebrating with dinner and dancing.  There will be a limited number of rooms available at a discount for those attending the reunion.  More details will follow on the invitation.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Sue at mahwahhighschool1976@yahoo.com   Many thanks to John and Kathy Dolan for offering to hold the BBQ at their Mahwah home once again!

We are pleased to have been able to reconnect with more classmates through Classmates.com and Facebook.  Our missing classmates list has been reduced but still includes many people that we have been unable to locate. Please refer to the recent email with the list of those we are looking for.  If you can help locate these people, please let us know. Thanks!

Extremely proud mom, Debbi Karpowich O’Connor sent in this picture of her daughter Melissa at her June 2010 graduation from Morris Hills High School. Melissa was the salutatorian of her class and is currently attending Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, majoring in mathematics. She will also pitch on the Swat softball team this coming spring.

Debbi’s son Kyle was also a graduate in the spring, from Thomas Jefferson Middle School. He is currently a freshman at Morris Hills High School. Debbi and her husband Brian “just barely made it through the last school year with their sanity intact!”

In July, classmates Robin Dexter, Irene Bader, and Karen Beley enjoyed a girls’ night out at the Famished Frog Restaurant in Morristown.

The waiter turned out to be a relative of Irene’s husband...small world.

Patty Menz completed a cross-country bicycle trip, riding from San Diego, California to St. Augustine, Florida.


"Over 3200 miles of riding, it was full of miles and smiles. Here is a picture when we reached the Atlantic Ocean on March 27, 2010."

Mike Dooley shares this:

" My son Michael's soccer team finished in third place out of twenty teams in the Florida Region B Cup. Captain Mike Dooley scored 4 goals in three games, two were from direct kicks bending in from 20 yards out and 2 were penalty kicks.

Mike will be an incoming freshman at Fleming Island High next fall."

GRADUATION CONGRATULATIONS to Robin Dexter!

Robin will be graduating from Virginia Theological Seminary on May 20th with a Master of Arts in Christian Education (MACE).

Robin did her thesis on Montessori-based religious education for all ages.

The John Carty golf outing that raises scholarship funds for Mahwah High School will be held on July 12th. We look forward to seeing pictures from this event in our next update in the fall.

Save the Date- June 25, 2011!



That is the weekend we will celebrate our 35 year class reunion. You will be receiving invitations and further information as the date nears. The festivities will be similar to our 30 year reunion which was a great time! There will be a golf outing (spaces limited) on
June 24, 2011 followed by a BBQ at John Dolan's. That evening we hope to meet at M B & G. The dinner/dance will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Doubletree Hotel in Mahwah.

We are looking forward to another fun celebration!

I hope you have had an enjoyable winter!

Thank you for visiting the new site - I have switched formats as it is faster to set up than the web site and this will also allow you to add comments and post news through the comments section yourself. So I hope you like using this and don't mind the change. HAPPY HOUR

The next Happy Hour will be held on Friday, June 5th starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Mason Jar in Mahwah. The Mason Jar is located at 221 Ramapo Valley Rd. It will be nice to have a good turn-out...come and have fun with good company. Bring your cameras and send me pictures to post in the next update.

"I work as a Special Education Teacher in the middle school here in New Canaan,CT. I love CT but miss Mahwah! This is my first full time teaching position, Iwent back to school in 2001 and graduated with my master's degree in 2004. I worked part time for a while, now I have no life! Hope next year is better. My kids are both in High School, a senior and a freshman. My husband has his own company: Reputation Garage, a consulting/marketing co. for businesses."

Classmates on Facebook

This year several classmates have found their way onto Facebook, so I started a group for our class and friends of our class (Mahwah High School Class of 76). It is just one more way to stay connected. Facebook can also be a great time-waster with the games and socializing. :-) Cardon Raquet (MHS 79) has also started a group - "You Know You're From Mahwah If...." To join these groups, just go to http://www.facebook.com/ and become a member then do a group search. From there you can find classmates and click to connect as a Facebook friend with them.
